Character-defining features include the dramatic three-story staircase; stunning stained-glass windows; doors, floors, wainscot paneling and trim with original finishes; ornamental plaster details; 11-12’ ceilings; and gracious rooms including a library (added in the 1880s by the judge who built the house) that feels like a baronial hall.
The assignment involves repairing the serpentine (and quite wobbly) staircase banister; updating baths and adding one new “en suite”; restoring damaged and missing woodwork; updating electrical systems and introducing new lighting; and having fun with interior paint and finishes. All work will be sensitively designed to qualify for New York State Historic Homeownership Rehabilitation Tax Credits.
